Jahane Rumi In search of the unsearchable: O, my soul! where would you find your house?

Qurratulain Hyder

Sometimes a little discovery can be so delightful. The other day I was shown an old book authored by Qurratulain Hyder. The book called "The Exiles" is author's translation of her novelette in Urdu. The book was presented to Agha Bashir Ahmad, another forgotten cultural icon from Lahore.

The first page has this little note that doesn't say much but means a lot to me (and I suppose many of Ainee Apa's devoted readers).

I was quite excited to see this. Also remembered my plans to work on a book on her writings with SH. Perhaps this was a little sign out of nowhere that we should start.

More can be found on Ainee Apa in my piece that was published in 2005. I am not sure when will I travel to Delhi (given all the visa hassles) but meeting Q Hyder in her Noida house is a priority. Hope she would remember me!
