Greetings from Washington state! My name is Michelle, and I am a high school literature teacher (currently a substitute) here. I am reading a book entitled The Places In Between, by Rory Stewart. In this book, the author walks through Afghanistan and recounts his observations and interactions throughout the journey. Perhaps you are familiar with this book? In any case, he talks about the Bamiyan Buddhas, and I was intrigued to find out more about these sculptures and their destruction, which led me to your blog. I read the poetic letter from Vidya Rao, then viewed your paintings and poetry posted on the site. I wanted to thank you for sharing these words and paintings with the world, for we need them so desperately. I yearn to go to Bamiyan myself, and Pakistan as well...someday, I hope.

Thank you again for words that have made such an impact.

With warm regards,

Michelle

Hi to Michelle ! A teacher of Literature from Washington. Forgive me this trespass (unsolicited advice)... but as Shakespeare said : "Frankness of expression is the purity of soul"... i would suggest that if you get a chance, read Annemarie Schimmel (Mystical Dimensions of Islam), and other books by Annemarie Schimmel. Schimmel captures the "heart" ! The "meat" as Rumi says, throwing bones for the others ! Schimmel will guide you... and she is a great guide !
