It is high time that nation-states recognise that and give up such 'proxy war' as an instrument of state policy against other nations. India has had its own share of travails with the LTTE, as has the US with the Al Qaida. I would say there are quite a few parallels that can be drawn with respect to Pakistan's experience with the Taliban.
