Islamabad is burning – down with terrorism

What jihad, what Islam and what kind of Muslims these butchers are - they kill innocent people, the underclass outside a posh hotel in Islamabad and think that they are serving some cause. And, this is the month of Ramzan when the Satan is apparently locked up....

The numbers of dead and injured are mounting - there is blood everywhere and a commentator has termed it Pakistan's 9/11.

About time Pakistani government weeds them out and saves us all from this menace.

Horrific. Barbarity at its worst.

ISLAMABAD, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- A blast occurred outside Marriott hotel in the center of Pakistan's capital Islamabad on Saturday evening, leaving at least 30 dead and scores of people injured, said the Pakistani Adviser to Prime Minister on Interior Rehman Malik.

Police suspected that an explosive-laden vehicle rammed into the gate of the hotel. A Danish diplomat and three U.S. citizens are among the injured, local Dawn TV channel reported.

Xinhua correspondent felt a strong tremor in the office of the Diplomatic Enclave about one kilometers from the hotel, which is surrounded by important buildings like Parliament house, Presidential house, Prime Minister's house and offices of ministers.

The blast caused fires in various parts of the five-star hotel building, and smashed windows of nearby buildings, including the building of state television.

The Marriott Hotel, a landmark building in the Pakistan capital, is a preferred hotel of visiting diplomats and businessmen.

The security has been put on alert across the country after the serious blast. Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani condemned the blast.

The blast came just hours after Zardari vowed to firmly fight against terrorism and extremism while addressing a joint session of the parliament.

  1. It was probably the folks that the Pakistani army is fighting in the North West or some friends of theirs, or so most ‘commentators’ and ‘analysts’ seem to think.

I found a rather scathing analysis at http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/7620767.stm . Check out the comments section too. It’s a mixed bag of reactions from Pakistanis as well as those from the rest of the world.

  2. The death of a single civilian, whether it happens in the posh areas of Islamabad or the rugged terrain of NWFP or the tribal areas is condemnable.

Pakistan is becoming an Iraq. And it is time that we, the citizens, do something about it. I wish we do something before things lead us to a civil war, in case of a civil war we will have to do what the Lebanese did (or at least tried to do).. i.e. to form a human shield against all the fighting miltias so that they would stop bombing…

What we are doing in the tribal region has to have an adverse effect on Pakistan. Hamid Mir has rightly pointed out that the people being killed there on regular basis are normal non-taliban pakistanis. Imran Khan has questioned if the taliban have an ID card which helps the US forces and the Pakistani forces to recognized them. Every single tribal man has a beard and a gun, but that does not make him a God damned terrorist! With the same damned gun and the beard they have defended our border, helped gain control of a large part of AJK and that is why we never needed to have forces on that side of the border! Why are we turning them into enemies?

If someone kills an innocent, illiterate and impoverished Pakistani’s son, father, mother or sister, he is bound to seek revenge and the various masters of the great game we are caught in are eager to make such people their pawns…

No one has a soft corner for a suicide bomber but we have to realize that injustice breeds injustice.

It might be the RAW, it might be the Taliban/Al-Qaeda, or it might be the CIA, or it could well be a joint operation of all of them including our own traitors of course.

We have to do something about this all. We, the citizens, the normal Pakistanis really really need to do something about it and I wish I could know what it would be.

This war on/of terror is a joke bigger and uglier than the East Pakistan drama, and we will regret if we don’t start to think about some practical steps. The army, the ruling political elite, the neighbors, the militants, everyone is against us and/or does not care about us. So we got to do something about it all or, only we, the citizens who will be at the losing end.

  3. Sorry for the length comments, but it was necessary.

Lets not forget what we did to the balochis during the 7 years rule of Musharraf. Atleast I can’t forget the pictures of innocent 2 year old kids being killed by Pak Army’s attacks I had seen around 18 months ago on this website of the baloch rebels: http://www.balochwarna.org

Lets not forget that hatred is bound to give rise to hatred.

  4. Irfan
your comments are excellent though I have to say that there is no justification for terror especially against civilians of any nationality, religion or creed.

I agree that injustice breeds injustice – but we are not Iraq and let us pray that we never become one
    we have to fight this

  5. When an incident of terrorism occures anywhere in the world.People of all over the world connects it to islam. For Example the terrorism in Islamabad Marriot Hotel. There are great chances of foreign hands in it.For more information see the interview of General Retired Hameed Gul by Javed Chauhdhry on express tv or in express.com.pk.The terrorism in Islamabad is a great conspiracy of cia and raw against islam. They want to force the pakistani government to surrender before america just like General Mushraf. If a Intelligent person investigate the aspects of this incident he easily can judje that foreign hands are involved in it.it not right to connect it to islamic millitants.it is not possible for any ordinary organization except CIA AND RAW to arrange such a big quantity of explosive material (01 ton ) in the heart of islamabad. It is 100% an American drama just like 9/11 drama which was played by american and jews to overcome and control the muslim world and its resources.

  6. Satan is apparently locked up but unfortunately people can be Satanic themselves. Who is to protect them from themselves?

  7. Raza, it’s looking pretty gloomy from here. I really don’t think Zardari and the other crooks have the ability or the will to do much about it.

I know you diasgaree, but surely the truth is that the PPP is now the establishment, and that they will continue with the policies of Musharraf and the Americans? After all, isn’t that why BB’s and Zardari’s cases were dropped?

  8. My dear Billo – how can I disagree with you :)
Yes things are quite unnerving and there is no change in the policies, yet. Having said that please do read this:

    cheers
    Raza

  9. Yes, a very well written piece. But the “unthinkable” is becoming thinkable. I heard someone the other day say: God doesn’t like two types of people: those who associate other gods with Him, and those who have lost hope. In fact, those who lose hope start believing in false gods.

I don’t think it’s a question of democracy or musharraf; it’s that the same fundamental structures of power are in place and it’s hard to imagine a functioning democracy without a large middle class and civil society.

anyway, keep blogging away. Reading your blog is something to look forward to amongst the doom and gloom.

  10. @RR Of course no one, including the extremist taliban who keep on attacking ordinary citizens as wel as pakistani military officers, pakistani military, those who are behind this whole real or fake taliban-drama.

But the point I was making was that we need to know the root cause of every problem.
Even if we keep killing the nuke the whole NWFP, this wave of voilence won’t stop unless and until we address the core issues.
America´s continued aggression, and the social, economic and every other type of oppression of all the people of Pakistan in general and those of the smaller provinces in particular are some of the core issues in my humble opinion.

  11. Raza bhai please, edit the first para of the last comment.

    Correction of the first paragraph:

“@RR Of course no one, including the extremist taliban who keep attacking ordinary citizens as wel as pakistani military officers, the soldiers of pakistani military, those who are behind this whole real or fake taliban-drama, and america´s continued intervention are some of the main causes of this whole problem.

And btw, why are we (including me to be honest) more upset at massacre of 53 people who died in Islamabad as compared to dozens of thsoe who are being killed everywhere else in Paksitan (especially in the tribal areas) since the last few years?

Being illiterate, backward and poor does not mean anyone has a license to kill them and it certainly does not mean no one should be bothered…
Perhaps this blast was their way (no matter how wrong it is) of reminding us what we are doing to them…

  12. Irfan:
this new WP version is without the edit option for the comments. This is why both your posts are there…

Yes, I am not saying that those innocent civilians who are being killed in FATA/NWFP are any lesser humans than those who died in Islamabad.

    I agree with you

  13. What is the definition of false gods billo,I wonder.
