O my Lord, if I worship you
8 September 2008
Today I was directed to this excellent blogsite devoted to Rabia Basri’s poems – found this bold poem by Rabia, an early Sufi from Iraq and one the better known women Sufi poet:
O my Lord,
if I worship you
from fear of hell, burn me in hell.
If I worship you
from hope of Paradise, bar me from its gates.
But if I worship you
for yourself alone, grant me then the beauty of your Face.

Raza bhai, this is beautiful
Shah Latif says in Sur Kalyan
Lord, your beauty assumes countless forms
and in each form manifests, your grandeur
brilliance of your majesty
words can never describe
the mind never ceases to wonder
beautiful!! I was wondering if you have anything of Qurat ul Ain Tahira of Iran. I heard she was also a poetess, as well as a Sufi.
Thanks,
Sarah

(pardon me for reviving an old post) thanks for posting this wonderful reminder; eyes welled up, a strong breath drunk, and His name expelled from inside once more.
