In my above post on Tansen, I was about to write Tansen IS the father of Hindustani music but changed it to Tansen [is] recognized by many to be the father of Hindustani music... 
Though Tansen is a musician extraordinaire, I did not want to forget Amir Khusrau. I think due credit should be given to Amir Khusrau too as it is well known that he ameliorated the Hindustani classical music.  It is also written that he might be the first one to have fused the best of Persian and Arabic to compose some of the earliest ragas to give form to what is now the basis of the tradition of classical music in India and Pakistan.</description>
