I suffer it for lack of a messenger,
The tyrant has sent a call.

Now, some would disagree with use of word “laddie”, but this is exactly the word used by Shah Hussain. I am sure, as far as the original kafi being covered by artists than you are familiar with Abida Parveen scintillating rendition & the refreshing fusion thanks to Meekal Hasan. Do please confirm if you have else I can share with you the info.
The original has words that are so close to common words in Sindhi that I am amazed at the similarity. I wonder if they are still used in Punjabi. Words like “daday” (showing excess of anything, large number etc.) as in “daday keetay saD way aRay” in the same kafi. Even the word saD (to call) I wonder if it is used so commonly as we do in Sindhi.

Since I listen to all types of music, let me share with you that Atif Aslam’s new album has 2 tracks that I am sure will not get any air-play or commercial coverage but it is very brave of him to cover them & do a good job as well
One is a punjabi poem by Faiz (Raba Sacheya) & other a Shah Hussain classic that I once blogged about & posted a translation as well called maee-nee main kinoon aakhaan. While the latter has been sung by kafi singers, I do not think anyone has covered Faiz’s punjabi nazm and with so much penache
