A personal God?
Found this post on a web-list:
The “Creator” (according to a saying of the Prophet)
says:“I AM for you, what you think of Me”
The more I contemplate about this saying the more I
get convinced that each one of us `creat` a unique
“Creator” for ourselves which is according to our
specific understanding of “Him”. However, “He” is NOT
what each one of us think Him to be as mentioned by
Him in Quran - “And there is NOTHING that can be
compared with Him” (Verse:5 Chapter112)The other saying of the Prophet is also extremely
meaningful - “the one who knows himself knows HIS
Lord”. A friend opened a new window in my thought process
by pointing out to the last part of the saying of the
Prophet i.e. `knows HIS Lord`. Here, the
hadith does not mention `knows THE Lord` instead it
says `knows HIS Lord` which `personalises the matter.
Hence, personal understanding of the `Creator` is
different for each person. So, each
one of us has a `personal God or no God`.

That’s an interesting new perspective that has been known to each of us for a long time, but one that we, generally, do not acknowledge as such.

And the next obvious step for me (without islamic credences but with all my respect to them) is “I AM God” understood as “I am an smal microatomic but important part of God”, that is, I have the esence of God. That would bring us a new vision of life and God, God is not a severus and fighting presence, It’s “only” pure love and we are the visible material part of that love.

Our personal vision of God ought to be personal..

…when something is ‘personal’ it ought to be treated such; no arguing on its validity, its form, and its individual practice. Here’s where the problem comes; sometimes our practice treads on another’s toes. That pinches; giving rise to pain, and pain as you know almost always results in a reaction which obviously is not well thought out. One thing leads to another and eventually the ‘personal’ God brings about a ‘public’ reaction.
Sad but true!

Well I hope I haven’t offended anybody with my comment, my apologies if so…
I thing that, as IMeMy says clearly, personal idea of God mustn’t be argued on its validity, but If every peopley can talk about it it wont be a taboo anymore and we will be able to understand the other one idea (inclusively if we can’t share it).

This is a deep issue. On the personal side, it is an extremely inviting and consoling thought… Me… and My God ! As i conceive it… and that suits my intellectual level…. BUT…. that image i have of Him…. is fantasy ! Cuz… its in the realm of trial-and-error ! It is still consoling. That is the personal equation between the creator and the created ! Forget the accuracy as regards the image itself.
The problem arises when a cumulative mindset of a group of people concerning the issue at hand is concerned. It is THEN that contradictions sprout leading to quarrels of My God v/s. Your God… .and then the Beauty-Contest mindset enters into fray.
God is truth - Truth is God - Who is Beautiful ! Truth and Beauty…. that is all that counts… all else is allegory and foot-note(s).

Well, to say the very least, this leaves a lot of room for maneuvering.
I mean, if I initially believe that my personal God will send me to hell for doing XYZ, all I need to do is change my personal God. And how do I do that?
Simple: Imagine a new personal God!
So perhaps I could imagine a personal God who would reward me richly for detonating a nuke in a metropolitan city.
