In this kafi Bulleh Shah has nicely explained the Love beyond rountine life. I have consulted the Muzaffar Ghaffar book on Bulleh Shah and he has explained the meaning of this stanza as: " The beloved has to be soothed brought around. There is a drama being enacted with rituals. The rituals are only a veil. The aspiration is acheiving union with Beloved. The allusion to Mary, her immaculate conception and the mothering of Jesus is alluded to here. God is one , neither married nor alone and yet he is the Creator. Though He is One and does not accept any duality, yet He creates. That too, the peot seems to say, is act of Divine Love. The poet wants to call upon that prospect again. In these lines there seems to be an ambiguity. The beloved is God. Union is sought with Him. And Bulleh Shah also taken a swipe at worldly rituals, such as the marriage rituals, which to him mean little for consummation of love. But then not being married is also made into a non issue. Or the real marriae is one made by heart. Or by Love. And not by any public ritual. In the tale, this was Heer's central philosophy. The poet conceives a gamboling son in her lap. This again is an allusion to Mary and Jesus, with significant consequences." For cubano

R Puri and T.R. Shangari I shall sing a wondrous charm; I shall coax my offended friend. This charm I shall read and blow, And light the fire with rays of the sun. With collyrium in my eyes, The sky overcast with dark clouds, With my eyebrows I shall work a storm. The seven seas asleep in my heart, I shall stir into a furious storm. I shall burst into a fierce flash of lightning; My furious thunder will prove startling. With love as furnace, stars as harmal. I shall make the moon as sharoud. On the footpath to the Transcendent, I shall sit and play on the conch. I shall sleep with my Lord, clasped to His neck; For then alone I shall be called his spouse. I shall sing a wondrous charm, I shall coax my offended friend. For RR

“Ik tuna”

Translation done by J. R Puri and T.R. Shangari

I shall sing a wondrous charm;
I shall coax my offended friend.

This charm I shall read and blow,
And light the fire with rays of the sun.
With collyrium in my eyes,
The sky overcast with dark clouds,
With my eyebrows I shall work a storm.

The seven seas asleep in my heart,
I shall stir into a furious storm.
I shall burst into a fierce flash of lightning;
My furious thunder will prove startling.

With love as furnace, stars as harmal.
I shall make the moon as sharoud.
On the footpath to the Transcendent,
I shall sit and play on the conch.
I shall sleep with my Lord, clasped to His neck;
For then alone I shall be called his spouse.

I shall sing a wondrous charm,
I shall coax my offended friend.

Cool poem, I really like the following sher: Sat samundar dil de andar dil se lehr uthaavaaN gee.
