Pakistanis have rejected extremism
The election results notwithstanding the irregularities and fears of rigging, are pretty straightforward. They undo the paradigm of ousting the two mainstream parties from the political arena; and instituting real democracy that is hostage to the bogey of Islamism and local feudal cliques through a non-party local governments.
These elections are also a slap on the face of the global corporate media (and their backers the global military machine) that had painted Pakistan as a breeding ground for Islamic extremism and dare I say terrorism.
The erstwhile sponsored face of Islamism - the Mutihada Majlis-i-Amal- has been routed in the North West Frontier Province (NWFP). The people of the NWFP have outrightly rejected this rentier class that uses Islamisation and extols Talibanisation for power and pelf. The secular and moderate parties have won the overwhelming majority of the vote.
When you allow the people of Pakistan to vote freely, they shun extremism.
Nothing could be more satisfying.
P.S. My friend Yasser Hamdani’s predictions are close to the emerging tally - King’s Party has lost more and Nawaz Sharif has gained more - but Yasser should take up forecasting now..!

After the first look at the results or the trends that are available at this time, the question top-most in my mind was that why, after preparing so hard and rather well for the King’s party to sweep the polls, has Uncle Mush let the others win?
It seems like he succumbed to pressure, from within and without, especially after having steered the enquiry into BB’s death, even by the Scotland Yard, towards the direction that he desired, among other things.
Also, the keywords that I manage to pick up from what I’ve seen and heard in the recent past include Mr. Asif Zardari’s refusal to rule out ‘working with’ him and the possibility of no party obtaining a clear majority, which, despite the friendly noises that the PPP and the PML (N) leaders have been making with respect to each other’s parties, can actually allow a lot of room for manipulation to the Prez.
So, despite all that is being reported in the media at the moment, the only one who comes out trumps, as far as I can see, could still be ol’ Mushie!

Its a moment of reckoning for the Emperor without Clothes, Retd. Gen. Musharraf. He will NOT leave in grace. He will have to be insulted and kicked out., because that is his destiny. Nawaz Sharif should rightly take over the mantle of PM, while Mr. Zardari should take over Sindh. The first thing is the re-instatement of Supreme Court Judge Iftikhar Chaudhry & his colleagues.
Iftiqar Ke Naseeb Mein Allah ne Iftiqar Rakkha hai. What can Mush do ?
After Mr. Musharraf is shown the door (to the Airport / for onwards flight to the USA to be with his family and son Bilal); Aitzaz Ahsan must be the President of Pakistan.
Nawaz (& Shahbaz., i.e. double-savari) must take bold and revolutionary steps now. No time for recriminations, pettiness and shoddiness. Nawaz must show that he means business. First priority is to change the mindset of the army - so that army never meddles in politics - remove the Turkish Model and throw it in the dustbin - AND - a visit to India., to tackle the most difficult questions.
Nawaz-Vajpayee Lahore Spirit must be revived. The issue of Jammu & Kashmir is now dead., because Pakistan itself is shaking. So why would J&K join a sinking ship (Pakistan). If J&K Stays with India, they have better future prospects ! As simple as that.
So congratulations, Mr. Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan. Congratulations to Mr. Asaf Zardari (the King-maker of Pakistan)
and to Mr. Aitzaz Ahsan (Future President of Pakistan).
Now the world will know the real killers of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto R.A.
(Parvez Elahi / ISI (Thru its handler Baitulla) / Shujaat Husain / Shaikh Rashid / ?). The truth will NOW come out., as to who was the master-mind of BB’s assasination.

The biggest news coming out of these elections is the rise of the secular ANP - my fear was that the govt. in competent handling of Lal Masjid and Militancy would push the people towards the Islamists.

Change appears to be in the air; Kosovo, Cuba, and now Pakistan.
Let Pakistani people’s will prevail, and it will truly be a new beginning for the country!

Those who are not true friends of Pakistan must be in mass depression.
