Siavash Mahvis – Artist from Iran
“Siavash Mahvis is a contemporary Iranian artist and a university professor. He owes his acquaintance with the world of line and design to realist artists. Daumier, the great French designer, has had a great influence on his mind.
He is fascinated by the bitter social humor and black, white, and gray relationships between the figures of Daumier’s design works. Daumier’s quick etching with a few sharp lines and powerful spots excite him a lot.

Mahvis is also inspired by the Russian literature and art works from
celebrities like “Chekhov” and “Dostoyevsky”, and powerful artists likeRepin,Kramskoy, and Serov. In fact, it is the realism of these artists and their presence in various social layers that influences him and nurtures his own mind.
At some point of time, expressionist realist tendencies of artists such as Kollwitz guided him towards his own social views and aesthetics of his art works. Along with all these, realistic naturalism and his photo-realism experiences enabled him to find better ways of expressing his inner thoughts.
