Your blogs on Ainie Khala are very impressive. Today, there is a function in her memory by Women Unlimited at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi at 7 pm. Just one pint though - the book on Bade Ghulam Ali Khan sahb was co-authored by her with Malti Gilani and not Minati Gulati.

Mayank:
Is it possible for humans to appreciate the true value of things before they are deprived of them? Feelings of being too late and deep loss will always be experienced at every funeral.

RR's beautiful expression of the loss:
"...and at an individual level, a part of one’s self as a reader."

7-8 years back, I did write to Qurratulain Hyder (while she was alive) at the address of the publisher [Educational Publishing House]. I did NOT receive a reply from her. However, the publisher did send to me by VPP Parcel her books (which were available at that point in time). I paid the money to the postman and took the books.

Qurratulain Hyder has written with beauty. She was a complex character. She lived in a world her own. She personally suffered (for no fault of hers) due to the evil of communal hatred. Communal hatred destroyed a thousand year old synthesis of Hindu-Muslim (Ganga-Jamnee) tehzeeb.. culture.. Everything of beauty was destroyed by the cyanide of communal hatred. Safforn Hatred was bad, and so was Green Hatred. They fed upon each other and destroyed the aesthetic beauty of the sub-continent's subconsciousness.

Those who want to SAVE urdu language (from extinction), must buy books and read them. I see so many people in the Gold Shops... but people want URDU books for free ! Why ? It is for the simple fact that the Urdu Writer is a cheap copy.. and can NOT create anything original or world-class. This misconception has to be corrected. Urdu writers have very very few topics to dwell upon. Why is it so ? Young people who read and write Urdu, must start writing... no harm if it is shoddy. Writing is an art that needs the hand of time to attain perfection.

Qurratulain Hyder was a HARD WORKER. Ismat Chughtai wrote naturally. Qurratulain Hyder, by the sheer dint of HARD WORK and dedication surpassed Ismat Chughtai. Novel-writing is extremely hard work. It is like the Patola weave !

Qurratulain Hyder was a weaver. She took off from where Premchand left.. who took off from Saint Kabir-Das (who was a weaver, technically).

I had written to Ainee (while she was alive) that she was a "word-smith"... After death i would like to make a minor change.. She was a word-weaver !

Thank you for your time.. Keep writing.. in Urdu.. Make mistakes.. but do keep writing.
