this was probably his best ghazal. i don't know much more than the basics of the history of the last mughal emperor but the most interesting stories about his court, to me at least, are the poetic squabbles of zauq and ghalib.

like your blog dude. :)

I have always admired and sympathized with Zafar, a remarkable man who is quite insensitively derided by some as a decadent. I wish such observers could turn their critical attention to Aurangzeb who undid so much.

PS I found your site through a trackback and your comment at http://sarangi.info and really liked its theme and content. Have you considered limiting the number of posts to 10 or 20 on the homepage to decrease loading time, enhance browsing and functionality of a feature like Snap, for instance?

Pl add the "Maqta" Raza which probably sums up the tragic life of the Emperor!
ITNA HAI BAD-NASEEB ZAFAR DAFN KE LIYE
DO GAZ ZAMEEN BHI NA MILI KOO-E YAR MEN

The poet was not allowed to be buried in Delhi and his mortal body was carried to Rangoon where his last resting place is.
