“The sea is seeking you” (Rumi)

27 February 2007

Silence is the sea, and speech is like the river.
The sea is seeking you: don’t seek the river.
Don’t turn your head away from the signs offered by the sea.

Version by Camille and Kabir Helminski

  1. Beautiful! Sometimes i wonder that the translations are so moving so what would it be like to read Rumi in Persian- if one understood Persian.

  2. One of my favorite Rumi quotes :) When you speak, you ony hear yourself, and learn nothing new. Keep silent, and the mysteries open to you. In the Nimatullahi Sufi khaniqahs, there is a framed saying on the wall:

“Silence, for breath is a Godsend.”

    Ya Haqq!

  3. Irving,
