Dear Amryta
You are absolutely right. Like all great writers Pamuk transcends borders and cultures. He brings out the soul of contemporary Turkey and the struggles that are taking place there.

please keep visiting

Just finished reading "Snow." Orhan Pamuk is a "Turkish" author and his material is contemporary Turkey. But the themes and conflicts are so much a part of our part of the world. The descriptions of this all-pervasive melancholy could have been of any of our developing nations. That's what makes Pamuk more than just a "Turkish" voice.

Adnan: thanks for visiting. Yes you should read Pamuk's works. My favourite is Red - especially if you like Islamic miniatures. Istanbul photo is not mine and I will add the credit. Am glad I psosted a picture of Istanbul that is one of the finest cities of the world.

I consider my self unfortunate. Yet to read any of his works. Will surely try to get the Red & others. Yes lot of politics.
Also, the photograph of Istanbul you have put is beautiful. Blue Mosque looks elegant from all angles.
